Meet The Coaches
The team's success isn't just a product of the athletes' hard work; it's also a reflection of the exceptional leadership and guidance provided by their dedicated coaching staff. They cultivate a positive and challenging environment where players can thrive, fostering not only athletic skill but also character and teamwork. The coaches' commitment to developing each player's potential, both on and off the court, is a hallmark of the program and a key ingredient in the team's consistent success. Their strategic expertise and passion for the game are evident in the team's performance and the strong bond they share with their players. They are truly instrumental in shaping these young athletes into successful competitors and well-rounded individuals.

Varsity Head Coach
Craig Pazanti
Head Coach Pazanti is currently serving as head coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. He is an HBHS alumnus and teaches science here at his alma mater. Pazanti became head coach at HBHS in 2009.
Over the last twelve years, Huntington Beach has captured six league championships and has five appearances in the CIF finals, won two CIF championship titles, two state championships, and the national championship for 2014.
The state and national championships were the first ever for HBHS. He was named OC Register Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2013 for his success coaching at HBHS. Coach Pazanti coached
the Oiler volleyball team through 121 consecutive wins, which is a USA national record.
After playing both volleyball and basketball at Huntington Beach High School, Pazanti began his coaching career at Huntington Beach in 1991, where he served as an assistant coach until 1996. As an assistant coach for both the boys and girls volleyball programs, Pazanti was a part of three CIF championships, one state championship, and one CIF runner-up. In 1997, Coach Pazanti began his college coaching career at Baylor University. At Baylor, Pazanti’s primary duties included the evaluation of prospective student-athletes, match preparation, and the training of athletes on a day-to-day basis. Over the next two seasons, Baylor went from last place in the Southwest conferences to an NCAA playoff bid as a member of the newly formed Big 12 Conference.
Upon returning to California, Coach Pazanti became the head volleyball coach at Mater Dei High school from 1999-2004. During this five-year period, Pazanti earned five league championships, five CIF final appearances, and three consecutive CIF championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003. The three CIF championships were the first volleyball titles for Mater Dei in school history, and remain the only girls’ volleyball championships for Mater Dei to date. For his efforts, Coach Pazanti was named 1999 Orange County Volleyball Coach of the Year, 2002 CIF Coach of the Year, and 2004 California State High School Coach of the Year by Cal HI Sports.
Coach Pazanti is also currently a coach for Goldenwest Volleyball Club.

Varsity Assistant Coach
Aly Torline
Aly Torline began coaching at HBHS in 2016. She was a three-year varsity starter for the Oilers where she led the team to a CIF Finals
appearance in 2009.
She went on to compete at Cal State San Bernardino winning the CCAA three years and advancing to the NCAA Regional Final four times. Torline was a two-time CCAA Scholar Athlete of the Year, AVCA All-American, NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, and finished her career as the all-time leader in points for CSUSB.
Aly spent three years coaching at the NCAA collegiate level at Cal State San Marcos and at Wesleyan University in Connecticut where the team won the NESCAC and an NCAA Regional Championship for the first time in program history.
She is currently the Varsity Beach Head Coach and Varsity Indoor Assistant Coach at Huntington Beach High School and was recently named to the AVCA 30 under 30 Coaches list.

JV Coach
Chelsea Olsen
This is Coach Chelsea’s 6th year as an Oiler coach. She was a three-year Varsity player at Marina High School. In her senior year, she was named captain, was added to the 2nd team All Sunset League, was inducted into Larry Doyle Hall of Fame, and was given the school’s most inspirational athlete award. She went on to play four years of Division 2 volleyball and graduated from Notre Dame de Namur University with a B.S. in Kinesiology.
She also coaches at Pinnacle Athletic Club and Goldenwest VBC.

JV Coach
Sydney Murrey
Murrey, a 3-year Varsity starter, returns to Huntington from Sonoma State to coach for her 3rd season as an Oiler coach. During her 12 years playing competitive volleyball she led her teams to the CIF Finals and was awarded MVP at Junior Nationals her 18s year. Murrey also coaches two girls club teams at Goldenwest Volleyball Club and coaches on the boys side at HBHS.

Frosh/Soph Coach
Morgan Bilbruck
Morgan is an Orange County native. She attended Fountain Valley High School before making her way to Arizona State University for undergrad and returning to Huntington Beach after her four years.
Morgan has been coaching both club and HS volleyball for 11 years. She has spent the last 8 years on the coaching staff for indoor at Huntington Beach HS and is going into her second year for the beach program. She has developed players across all ages and has had success with many teams finishing at the top of SCVA and at the National level.

Frosh/Soph Coach
Kendall Bilbrick
This is Kendall’s fourth season coaching at Huntington Beach High School. Kendall went to Fountain Valley High School and California State University Channel Islands, followed by getting her Master’s degree from Concordia University. She was a setter and began coaching in 2010 while attending college. She has worked for various schools and clubs developing teams from 12s to 18s age groups.
She was the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and the Men’s Varsity Assistant Volleyball Coach at Oak Park High School from 2016 to 2020 winning league titles in both programs and a State Championship with the Men’s program. She also started the Women’s Beach program at Oak Park High School in 2018 before making her way back to Orange County.

Coach
Drake Evans
Drake attended Huntington Beach High School and played volleyball under Coach Craig. During his time at HBHS, the team achieved back-to-back CIF and State Championships, including an incredible 140-match winning streak.
Drake also competed with Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, where they earned several silver medals and a gold. Although volleyball was a huge part of Drake’s early athletic career, ultimately he decided to pursue basketball in college. He attended Loyola Marymount University, where he played basketball. After graduating, Drake played professionally overseas for the London Lions.
Drake since then has returned to volleyball and Huntington Beach where it’s been an amazing journey ever since.

Coach
Rory Jones
Rory has been coaching at HBHS for 7 years and has been part of both the Girls’ and Boys’ programs. Rory was part of three league championship teams as an athlete at HB. He went on to be a State Champion at Irvine Valley College and moved on to play at Long Beach State.
Throughout Rory’s career, he has played Libero, Outside Hitter, Opposite, and Middle Blocker. Rory is currently the Head Coach of the Men’s Volleyball team at Irvine Valley College and coaches club at both Pinnacle and Apex.
